Renew, Refresh, Retool –
2008 SC Synod Fall Convocation for Rostered Leaders

September 16-18, 2008

Thank you for checking out this Fall Convocation web page! The planning committee is very excited to present this year’s program as an opportunity for sharing, growing, and collegiality.

The convocation will feature as keynoter Pastor Michael Foss, author of Power Surge, A Servant's Manual, Real Faith for Real Life, From Members to Disciples, and The Disciple's Joy. In addition, five different workshop series are being offered in various areas of ministry, including theological reflection, spirituality, and Bible study.

Please take a look at the Program Brochure and Registration Form to find out more!  The link below will open a copy of the flyer in Adobe Acrobat (*.pdf) format. Print it out and mail it (with a check) to Lutheridge.

PLEASE NOTE:  There are NO remaining rooms in Kohnjoy Inn. Please do not choose Kohnjoy on your registration form.

Fall Convocation Survey Summary

Last fall and winter, the Fall Convocation Planning Committee sent a survey to all rostered leaders, first by e-mail and then by mail.  A total of 209 responses were received. Of these respondents, over 80% had attended Fall Convocation in the past, but nearly 70% had not attended in 2007.

We were very pleased with the level of response – both in number of respondents and in the quality of the helpful comments and feedback. Your willingness to participate in this survey helped the committee greatly in its work. Thank you very much to all who responded!

Here is a summary of the key survey results:

1) What is the most important factor for persuading you to attend in 2008?

When asked to choose only one factor in deciding whether to attend Convocation, nearly 45% respondents indicated Appealing Key Note Speaker. Approximately tied for second with about 18% each, were Helpful Workshops and Fellowship.

2) Workshops that I would be interested in:

In order from highest to lowest, the top four most requested workshop topics were:

1) Theological Reflection, 2) Personal Spirituality, 3) Bible Study, and 4) Preaching.

3) Would you be willing to pay an additional $20 above the cost of lodging and meals, if it means higher quality programming?

85% of respondents said they would be willing to pay $20 for increasing the quality of programming, and the registration fee has been increased for this purpose. There were some who indicated that cost was a factor that impacted their ability to participate. We are therefore exploring the possibility of collegial scholarships. See the registration form for more details.
